Santa Monica Mountains Backbone Trail Trek 2007

Our meeting place is also the first night’s camp. We will meet at the La Jolla Valley Group Camp in Point Mugu State Park, May 5th. Plan to arrive between 3 P.M. and 5 P.M. Come early enough to set up your camp and do a vehicle shuttle to the parking area a couple of miles away. We will have dinner & orientation at 6 P.M. after shuttling vehicles to the secured parking area.

From the North – Take the 101 Freeway to Camarillo and go right (south) on Las Posas Road about 8 miles to Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Hwy). Left on Pacific Coast Hwy about 4.5 miles to La Jolla Valley, on your left. (Don’t be tempted to take Highway 1 through Oxnard unless you are sightseeing because the traffic is slow.)

From the South - There are several ways to access Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) coming from the South. Heading west on P.C.H., La Jolla Valley will be on your right about 2 miles past Sycamore Canyon.

La Jolla Group Camp - As you enter La Jolla Valley, the group camp is at the end of the right fork, within 100 yards of turning into La Jolla Valley.

Note – La Jolla Valley is part of the Pt. Mugu State Park, approx 6 miles west of Ventura County Line.

Drop Off Suggestions – If you are being dropped off at La Jolla Valley, your pickup at the end of the hike can be either at La Jolla Valley or at Will Rogers State Historic Park. The planned arrival at Will Rogers is about 2 - 2:30 P.M. on May 12, at which time we will have our farewell lunch until 3:30 or so. We should be back to La Jolla Valley by about 4:30 P.M. Your pickup driver is welcome to take part in the farewell lunch at Will Rogers.
