TRAVEL DIRECTIONS
Santa Monica Mountains Backbone Trail Trek 2010

The Backbone Trail Trek 2010 is scheduled for May 1st through May 8th, 2010.

Our meeting place is also the first night’s camp. On May 1st, we will meet at the Thornhill Broome Beach Campground in Point Mugu State Park, which is located on Pacific Coast Highway approximately 6 miles west of Ventura County Line. When you enter the campground ask the attendant at the kiosk for directions to the BBT event campsites. Watch for event signs. Plan to arrive between 2:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. Come early enough to set up your camp and do a vehicle shuttle to the parking area a couple of miles away. We will have dinner & orientation around 6:00 P.M. after shuttling vehicles to the secured parking area.

From the North - Take the 101 Freeway to Camarillo and go right (south) on Las Posas Road about 8 miles to Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Hwy). Left on Pacific Coast Hwy about 4.5 miles to Thornhill Broome Beach Campground on the right. (Don’t be tempted to take Highway 1 through Oxnard unless you are sightseeing because the traffic is slow.)

From the South - There are several ways to access Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) coming from the South. Heading west on Pacific Coast Highway, Thornhill Broome Beach Campground is on your left about 2 miles past Sycamore Canyon.

The trek will conclude in mid-afternoon on May 8th at Will Rogers State Historical Park, in Pacific Palisades. After a light lunch, a shuttle back to the car parking area will be provided.

Drop Off Suggestions – If you are being dropped off at Thornhill Broome Beach Campground, your pickup at the end of the hike can be either at Will Rogers State Historic Park or at the secure parking area, at 39996 Pacific Coast Highway (one mile north of Leo Carrillo State Park). The planned arrival at Will Rogers is about 2 - 2:30 P.M. on May 8th, at which time we will have our farewell lunch until 3:30 or so. We will have a van shuttle to the secure parking area where you will meet up with your camping gear and vehicles. If you desire to return to the secure parking area, we should be there by about 4:30 P.M. Your pickup driver is welcome to take part in the farewell lunch at Will Rogers State Historic Park.
