Backbone Trail - West of Kanan Road (Upper Zuma Canyon Trail)

NPS - Zuma / Trancas Canyons

Six of us continued where we left off a month ago on the Kanan Dume to Encinal Canyon section of the Backbone trail. The day started cool and damp with swirling mists. The Ceanothus was in bloom and lent a snowy appearance to the hillsides. The frogs were croaking, the birds chirping, and the stream flowing very happily. We lopped brush back from the trail, removed rocks and other tripping hazards, and created/cleaned water diversions. We all got soaked each time we touched a branch and received a shower of refreshing "rain" stored on the vegetation.
