Volunteer work is a vital part of preserving our open spaces. Because of limited budgets for state and federal agencies, most open space maintenance is done by volunteers. They have played a critical role in maintaining our open spaces for everyone to enjoy and to protect the areas that wildlife call home, and the work itself enhances your wilderness experience. Also, volunteering helps you learn new skills, meet others with similar interests, promote fitness and get to know our open space areas better.

The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA) has a number of organizations that are focused on preserving the natural resources of the area through their land management and trail advocacy initiatives. Many of these organizations offer the public a chance to assist in maintaining and preserving these natural resources.

This web site is designed for you to view volunteer opportunities and take action by joining in this rewarding experience. No prior experience is needed to participate in any of these opportunities.
